Ten Thoughts on the Last Tuesday of 2008

1. I did manage to keep one resolution this year- read my Bible all the way through. Thanks to Dave, who started me out with a plan, I got to June when my church started the Life Bible Journal study. It has been an adventure- one I plan on continuing.

2. I didn't manage to lose this last pesky 20 lbs. So that is a goal for next year. I have to get serious with the exercise or it won't happen.

3. I got a chance to speak with a dear friend this afternoon who got some great news! I have a sneaky feeling that 2009 is going to be really good to her- better even than 2008 was!

4. I do want to learn something in 2009, and that is not how to dread what is coming before it gets here. I need to learn to love the moment, enjoy the moment, and leave the "what ifs" for when they actually come about.

5. I also hope 2009 brings more child support! The ex is $15,000 behind- and doesn't even feel bad about it. Well, hopefully he will once he gets in court next week!

6. My alarm clock is still working well, and now we're going to try something new- the Saturday handyman! I'm trading him a Saturday of help around his house for a Saturday of help around mine! I think I'm getting the better deal- my house is bigger!

7. It has been so nice to not have to get the kids up and out the door in the mornings. I really wish school started an hour or two later than it does!

8. I'm looking back over 2008 and truly see it as a year of healing. It has brought me much happiness, and for that I thank God, my mom, my kids, and Scott.

9. I'm hoping  2009 is just as good- if not better! (Selfish? Maybe.)

10. My prayers are that all of you have a fabulous 2009, too!

Merry Christmas My Friends

I didn't even do a ten thought Tuesday this week- I don't think I even remember when Tuesday was this week! It is a whirlwind to Christmas and I'm so glad it is finally here! I do wish it lasted a little longer, though.

Monday night Scott came over for dinner. Savannah wanted to play games so we taught her how to play Rummy. After about 4 hands, she was bored and wanted Upwards. So we switched, but didn't keep score at that game (someone lost the rules and I forgot how you counted points!) Oh well, it is really more for her to learn words and how to spell anyway! Good thing, because she and Scott started "cheating" about half-way through- wanted to swap letters, kept looking when they were drawing.. it was really funny and just warms my heart to see them getting that close.

Yesterday I worked an extra 2 hours in the hopes I wouldn't be at work all day today. Which worked- we were done by 11am this morning! Yay! Mom's cooking at her house and I'm setting up stuff at mine for Christmas Eve tonight. Brandon has gone shopping with Scott- they're supposedly off buying me a present (isn't that sweet?) and Savannah is with my niece. So all is quiet here for a little bit. About 6pm, I'll have 15 people here for hors d'oeurves and drinks, then go to our 11:00pm candlelight service. I said I'd sing, so I have to be there early.

Tomorrow is the big day! I'm excited because the kids got exactly what they want (new cell phones) but I have them convinced that they don't. And my mom has exactly what she wants and doesn't know it either! I love it when Christmas works out that way! Since Scott, Brandon, Chris & Salina, my aunt and uncle, and my brother-in-law Jason all have to miss Christmas dinner tomorrow, we postponed it until Sunday. So we just get to be lazy after the present-opening! Yay!

Scott comes back from his family's on Saturday, so we decided to have our Christmas with him then. And with postponing Christmas dinner until Sunday, this is going to be a busy holiday! I'm just  happy to be blessed with a wonderful family, great friends (including you all here) and a happy life.

Merry Christmas, wherever you are and whatever you're doing! May the peace of Christ enter your hearts today and bring you the joy that is the true essence of Christmas. I love you all!

Joyful.. the Top Ten

This is the week for JOY! I thought I'd look up the word, because although it only has three letters, it  is a complex word. It is more than happiness... it is a state of being. Dictionary.com gave this definition:

<i>the emotion of great delight caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying.</i>

To me, joy comes from knowing Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. He is able to take the sting out of the bad things.. to give me more to look forward to than more of the same... to bless me with countless gifts. So, the Top Ten this week is a list of things that are gifts from Jesus that bring me joy.

1- Chris and Brandon. That these boys have embraced me as their mother, to the point of staying when their father left, blesses me every day.

2- Savannah. She is the light of my life- the one I would lay my life down for. She is loving and kind, and has the spirit of an adventurer, too- kinda like her mom!

3- My mother. I'm blessed to call her my friend and confidant. She has shouldered a lot of the financial burden of this divorce (thanks mom!) and still treats me with gifts far beyond what I deserve. I did promise to care for her in her old age, though!

4- Scott. He came into my life at the perfect time, and is the perfect person for me right now. Savannah sees him as a replacement dad (her pretend daddy, she calls him), which does cause me some concern, but he loves her just as much. They've talked. I'm truly blessed.

5- My job. I look forward to going to work most days- and end up staying late without realizing it! I don't have to listen to whining, complaining, negative people (well, hardly ever) and I do all the things I love. And I have good benefits on top of that!

6- The animals. As much as I grumble about the little inside dog and the cat I'm allergic to, I do like the security that animals provide. Their unconditional love. Their willingness to listen. Their mousing skills! And Scott's dog is incredible! She is so trusting and so loving.

7- My church. I've been here for 17 years, and it has changed so much. Gone from a 100 member congregation to a 1000 member congregation. But it is still a loving, caring congregation full of friends. And I get so much joy from Children's Worship!

8- My friends. Both online and IRL, I'm blessed with caring people who support me. Dave, Abby, Kat, Sabrina, Jimmie, Dai, ZB... and many others... have all been around through good times and not so good times. You understand me, support me, laugh with me, and validate my thoughts. Thanks!

9- My country. Yes, it is rather a mess right now, but it is still a place where you can complain without being hauled away in the middle of the night, worship without worry, and be anything you want to be, no matter who you are.

10- My God. He is bigger and stronger than all my problems- and that is a cause for Joy!

Christmas Decorations

One of the kids got this at the "Santa Shop" at school one year.

This isn't as extensive as Abby's, but the house is looking so nice. I'm going to try to enjoy it for awhile without thinking about how bare it is going to look in January. Scott agreed with me that it is a very soothing room to be in right now.

Hash Brown Casserole

Ingredients:
Lg bag (32oz) frozen hashbrowns, shredded or cubed
16 oz cheddar cheese, shredded
16 oz sour cream
1 can cream of potato soup
1/4 c. parmesan cheese

Directions:
Mix the sour cream and soup together. Add hashbrowns and toss to coat. Stir in cheese, reserving a small portion of cheese for the top. Place in a greased 9x13 pan. Top with cheddar and parmesan cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes, until top is brown.

Stolen from Sea- a Christmas Questionnaire

1. Which do you like better: cooking at your house, or going elsewhere? I like cooking, but it doesn't matter if I'm at my house or not. This year we are- for Thanksgiving we were at my Mom's- I still do most of the cooking.

2. Do you buy a fresh or frozen bird OR do a ham? Turkey is Thanksgiving- Christmas is ham! And depending on how many of the boys are home, maybe a turkey, too.

3. What kind of stuffing? Usually a pan of dressing instead of stuffing (because there's usually no turkey!

4. Sweet potato or pumpkin pie? Sweet potato! And chocolate pie, and if we're lucky my aunt will bring her awesome pecan pies!

5. Do you believe that turkey leftovers are a curse, or the point of the whole thing? I love the leftovers- I try to get a turkey that is too big!

6. Which side dish would provoke a riot if you left it off the menu? Probably our hash brown casserole.

7. Do you save the carcass to make soup or stock? If we have one I do... ham bones definitely get dropped in the next beans or soup that gets made.

8. What do you wish you had that would make preparing Christmas dinner easier? More places for people to sit... if you're talking about actual cooking, I'm asking Santa for a KitchenAid mixer!

9. Do you get up at the crack of dawn to have dinner ready in the early afternoon, or do you eat at your normal dinner hour? Christmas Eve we start at 5 and end at midnight with hors d'oeuvres and tasties. Christmas Day is a meal, usually late afternoon, so we do presents in the morning and then start cooking.

10. If you go to somebody else's house, what's your favorite dish to bring? If it's a party, shrimp cocktail. People are sure to love it!

11. Is your cranberry sauce fresh or canned? If we have it, fresh. I won't eat canned.

12. What's your absolute favorite thing on the menu? Hmm that's hard- I don't make things I don't like! But probably the shrimp cocktail!

Peaceful Ten Thought Tuesday

1. I don't know if I'm really peaceful- I have spent the day Christmas shopping. But most of it is done, so that will add some more peace to my life!

2. I had an unexpected treat last night. Scott's ministry candidacy has to be voted on by several groups and he asked me to come with him last night to one of them. I wasn't prepared for a full-blown worship service- with communion! But I was so happy, because I had missed communion on Sunday. God is so good!!

3. My mom and I get along great! I have her presents to wrap and she has mine! (I got the better end of that deal!)

4. I bought a new rug for the living room yesterday- Merry Christmas to me! The old one was shot, and I happened to be at Linens 'n Things at their 70% off sale... who could resist?

5. I brought Madi inside last night because it was cold. Actually I do that most every night. But last night she wanted to be a lap dog- all 45 lbs of her! She is so sweet and loving!

6. I should tell Scott how much love he has brought into my life- at least through his dog!

7. Savannah made a very mature decision yesterday- she quit the school basketball team. Her grades were slipping and she knows it is because she wasn't getting home from school until after 7pm every night. The AD told her he was proud of her for putting her grades first.

8. Brandon and his ex-girlfriend have finally made peace and decided to be friends. This is a very good thing, especially since he is in such a small school. (He's a senior-- there are less than 40 kids in his graduating class!)

9. I have community chorus dress rehearsal tonight for our concerts this weekend. I'd rather sleep- I feel like I'm getting a cold, which is the last thing I need if I'm going to sing all weekend.

10. I am so pleased and proud to have Scott in my life! He is truly a blessing to me and my family, and that gives me peace!

It's What I Do Each Week

You know I lead music for children's worship each Sunday. Some weeks are just special, though. I thought you'd get a kick out of this picture. We had a real live Indian chief (Reynard Faber, chief of the Apache Nation) at our church last month. He works with Samaritan's Purse as the Native American coordinator for Operation Christmas Child. He received shoeboxes during our children's worship service. That's me beside him, handing out treats to everyone who donated a box.

Meeting the chief was fun- he was a great guy who liked to pick on people a lot, but obviously loves Jesus. The kids were in awe, especially when he was telling them of children who receive the shoeboxes.

I really love my job!!

The Symphony Was Awesome!

I ended up with three free tickets to the Charlotte Symphony last night (perk of the job, believe it or not!) So Scott, Savannah, and I went to their Christmas Pops concert. It was a blast! The symphony was joined by the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte, the Charlotte Children's Choir, a jazz quintet, and the UNCC Percussion ensemble.

The diverse program included "C
hristmastime is Here" by the children and the jazz quintet; Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus" from the Messiah; a movement from Tchaicovsky's "Nutcracker Suite"; music from "The Polar Express" and a quirky original piece by the percussion ensemble (who was a ton of fun) called "All I Want for Christmas is a Brand New Drum," where they beat on everything from their knees, to boxes, to drums, to Santa- and even Mrs. Claus used her broom to keep time! There was more, including "Silent Night," "White Christmas," "Sleigh Ride," and a movement of the Poulenc "Gloria."

We had great orchestra level seats, but at intermission, Scott and Savannah got to exploring the beautiful Belk Theatre, made friends with an usher, and ended up moving us to box seats right over the stage! That was fun- looking down and watching them play! Look at this picture, and we sat on the middle level on the right- the closest box to the stage!

I miss being in band, but this cured my classical music lust for the moment, anyway. We were discussing season tickets on the way home, but $300 for 5 shows (for 2 people) is beyond our means right now, although that isn't a bad deal at all. Maybe Santa will be good to me and bring me symphony tickets for Christmas!

Charlotte Symphony

Start:     Dec 4, '08 6:00p
Location:     Charlotte, NC
Yay! I got three free tickets to the symphony, so Scott, Savannah and I are heading that way! It's their Christmas pops concert. We're going to eat at Sonoma (really, really nice, overpriced, restaurant) but since the tickets are free we can afford to splurge a little!

Photo Tag: Stolen from Doug, Abby, Kat, and probably a few other people!

I won't tag anyone, but if you wish to do so, you can join in. Here are the rules, as copied from Doug, Abby, Kat, and who knows who else at this point!

Go to the sixth photo album on your Multiply site.

Go to the sixth (or last) photo in that album and post it to your blog.

Tell the story behind the photo.

Here's mine:

This picture is from my birthday trip to Virginia. As we rode bikes down the mountain, Savannah and Scott went crawdad hunting in the creek. Here, Scott is holding one they caught while Savannah gives him a "thumbs up."

Which Reindeer are You?

You Are Prancer
You are the perfect reindeer, with perfect hooves and perfect flying form.

Why You're Naughty: Because you're Santa's pet, and you won't let anyone show you up.

Why You're Nice: You have the softest fur and the sweetest carrot breath.

Coal and Savannah

This is our stray kitty that we adopted. The vet estimated his date of birth as June 15, so he is not quite 6 months old.

Ten Thought Tuesday- The Thanksgiving Edition

Dave and Sabrina had a great idea so of course I'm stealing it! Here's my list of ten things I'm thankful for:

1) My kids. They stuck by me when they could have left with their dad. They kept our family intact and love me unconditionally. (If you don't know, the boys are my step-sons- so that's why I'm doubly grateful.)

2) Scott. He came into my life at a time that I never thought I'd trust another man. He taught me what I should expect someone to treat me like- showed me that there are good people in the world, and that someone can love me for who I am.

3) God. He has surrounded me with love, saved me from myself, offered His grace.

4) My job. It doesn't pay much but I can do what I love, and that is worth more than money. I also get out in time to get home before the kids get home from school. That is worth a lot, too!

5) My mother. She made me a promise when the ex left, that we would be ok financially. She has given me more of my inheritance than I probably deserve, but she says she likes using it when it fills a need, not after she's dead!

6) Music. I am blessed to have the gift to perform it and enjoy listening to it.

7) My friends. And include many of you in this as well- I'm thankful to have people who are there to listen when I need to vent, who understand me and like me for who I am.

8) My church. I am blessed to be in a growing, vibrant church where the Lord is doing great things. Like Dave, I attribute that to wonderful outreach.

9) Reliable transportation. And gas prices that have really dropped!

10) Christmas- I love the lights, the smells, the parties, and the spirit that surrounds the season. I love the anticipation of Advent and the magic of the Christ Child.

Explain Global Warming to me, please!

It was 15 degrees here this morning! This is the south- only in the coldest day or two of February does it get below 20! This is the third day this week it has been this cold. I brought the dog in - her water bowl is frozen solid, so there is no way she can be out there, especially with her short fur. She does love being in with the people where it is warm.

My sister decided that today would be a good day to roast a pig. Of course, she decided this a month ago, not knowing that it would be an arctic winter in NC before Thanksgiving. But Scott and I are bundling up here in a few minutes to head that way. At least she has added a bonfire to the festivities!

So please, explain the concept of global warming to me... we're setting record low temps around here!

I'm Addicted to this Show

If you know me at all, you'll know I don't watch much TV. But Scott got me hooked on this new show- well, it is in its second season, but NBC has full episodes that you can watch online of the first season. I have watched every episode! I enjoy the wit of these writers and the twists that the story line takes each week. There is an ongoing story, in that Charlie is trying to figure out who framed him for murder and why. You'll recognize Alan Arkin, but the rest of the cast was unknown, at least to me. It is on Wednesday nights at 9pm and is the quirkiest cop show I've ever seen! Just watch this trailer and you'll see what I mean!

Inspired by Abby- The Fridge

Ok, I have an hour to kill before going to Brandon's basketball game. Scott and Savannah have gone to SC with the youth group and won't be back until Sunday (yes, I'm missing her birthday with her!) and I'm bored. So I'm posting pictures!

This is the front of the fridge. You can see a silhouette that Savannah did in class along with a picture of her that is a couple of years old. On the other door are some bills that need to be paid and the bulletin from my cousin's funeral.

Here's the side view- I think that peppermint frame used to be around the picture that is on the front of the fridge. Also you'll see an '06 Nascar race schedule, a snowflake, an Upward basketball sticker from, I think, 3 years ago. And the ticket thingy is a reentry ticket for a movie that we had to wait an hour before it started. I think it is 2 or 3 years old, too- wonder if they'd honor it? Can you tell we don't take too much off of the fridge?

And here's the top- this is where people put things when they don't want to put them in their right places. The basket is full of junk- mostly things like scissors, paper, lighters, ribbons, coupons... who really knows?

Thanksgiving Ball at the Barony

Start:     Nov 29, '08 10:30p

Ten Thought Tuesday- The Veteran's Edition

1. I talked to my son, who is at Goodfellow Air Force Base (but he's army) today. They were getting ready for a big cookout!

2. Scott has been here for two days helping out with a sick girl. I don't know what I'd do without him. (I don't really want to find out!)

3. He is going to see his sister in Chapel Hill tomorrow and do some business there. He won't be back until Friday, then he and Savannah are heading off to SC with the youth group for a retreat. So I really won't see much of him the rest of the week.

4. Savannah's 12th birthday is Saturday- and I won't see her because she'll be at that retreat.

5. I've never not spent her birthday with her.

6. At least she will be having fun- and then we'll have her party the next weekend.

7. Doing the audio replys to Sabrina's blog last night was fun! Even got the kids involved. We'll have to figure out how they can "talk" to each other! Kinda different than having pen pals when we were kids!

8. I painted my bathroom off of the kitchen today. Lowe's didn't quite match the color and I had to do two coats. But as soon as I get the new towel rod and toilet paper holder up it will be just like new!

9. I wish I could go play in Abby's closet. There's nothing to wear in mine.

10. Didn't I do good? Only two thoughts were about Scott! He might be gone but he's still my alarm clock- and we've started praying, too- that is going to be a fabulous addition!

Savannah's Birthday

My little girl will be 12! I can't believe it!

Ten Thought Tuesday- the Election Edition

1. Scott- my first thoughts are always about Scott! *giggles*

2. I'm SOOOO glad this election will be over today. Hopefully, it won't take two weeks to get the results!

3. Scott and I sat down to do our election research. It is amazing to me how much we think alike- we didn't differ on a single issue- and we're to the point in our relationship where we would have said so if we did.

4. I did vote for 3 democrats- because they were the best people for the job. Isn't that what it's all about anyway?

5. My son voted for the first time in his life! He just turned 18 in August! I'm so proud of him!

6. Scott's mom went home over the weekend. I still don't know her well, but she seems to like me. I know she likes Savannah!

7. Have I said how much I like my alarm clock lately?

8. I've started a new exercise routine- I'm walking Scott's dog in the afternoons. She doesn't really need it, but I do! And its kinda fun!

9. I took my dog to the vet today- $135.00 for a bath, shots, and exam. I don't pay that much for one of the kids. Then they wanted to give me $88 of flea prevention! Forget it!

10. The kids got report cards today- Brandon made the A/B honor roll! Considering how bad his grades were last year, this is awesome! Savannah didn't do so well- that transition to middle school (where you have to be organized and responsible on your own) is tough! Her teachers say she has improved, just couldn't overcome the first few 'learning' weeks!

Where am I?

Ok, so everyone is using cute little monkeys and dolls and things. I couldn't come up with anything cute like that so I thought, "what am I always looking for?"

Answer: My Keys!

So, I'll take pictures of them several places. Not only will that work for this, but it might also help me remember where I put them!

Picture Perfect Favorite

I know you're all tired of hearing about my Montana trip, but this was the absolute prettiest place on earth. This photo was taken in Glacier National Park in June 2007. I actually had a hard time choosing between photos, because everywhere you turned in this place, there was a vista that was a real testament to God's glory.

...oOo...

Each week a new theme will be posted here on Friday morningYou are invited to put up your best picture on your own blog with that theme in mind, and you do have the whole weekend to post your picture, so there is no rush

Remember it should be just  ONE and ORIGINAL, taken by YOU,and not off the internet,

Then come back and leave a comment on this page in the comment box so that everyone can link to your blog and see your photo. Don't forget to OPEN your page to EVERYONE for that day.

By all means mention your camera and lens used, and if the picture has been altered or enhanced in any way, so we can all learn and improve our techniques.

Try and post a decent size picture on your blog page for an increased WOW factor. Often so much is lost or distorted if the size is too big or too small.

Remember this is NOT a competition, this about being creative having fun and being supportive of one another.

Out of the box thinking is encouraged.

~ Have FUN out there! ~

A special note: For those of you who enjoy putting music on your blogs, please don't set the player to play the music automatically.  The music is lovely. Doing it this way just gives folk a choice.

...oOo...

We all have a favorite photo. One that we are the most proud of.  This week it's time to share your very best with us. It's time to show off and put your pride and joys out there for us to see.  I hope you all enjoy this.

Ten Thought Tuesday

1. Wonder if I can think of 10 thoughts- and who they'll be about?

2. Scott's mom is coming to stay for a week. She'll be here tonight.

3. It's hard navigating between mother and son- they don't get along too well, but I'm stuck trying to get along with them both. Mom is loving but controlling, and son is independent but loves his mother. I'm sitting here in the middle!

4. This is a great reason to stay single- no mother-in-law!

5. I have a busy week, and so do they. Maybe we can plan a fun dinner or two.

6. Maybe I can get my garage cleaned out this weekend- I almost can't get my car in there anymore. Its a two-car garage, too!

7. My laundry room is neat right now- you know you're old when you're excited that your laundry room is neat and organized.

8. I cleaned under the sofa. Found the remote that was lost a month ago!

9. Where is everyone right now? Susan isn't posting as much as usual because of football, Dave and Sabrina are in love and not here quite as much, I don't know where Guy is..... even Kat isn't blogging every day! (Not that I have any room to talk...)

10. I have done well keeping my Bible study group up to date. I haven't had to do two days in one in over 6 weeks now- thanks mostly to my alarm clock! (Who talked for 30 min this morning, so I was almost out of time getting it done!) If you're not a member and want to be, just let me know.

Ten Thought Tuesday- the Wednesday Edition

1. I'm a day behind. What else is new? Hey- at least I'm posting!

2. My alarm clock cooked breakfast this morning- I could get incredibly spoiled!

3. He thinks I do more for him than he does for me.

4. I think he does more for me than I do for him!

5. Who is right?

6. He is starting a new job- actually he finished his two week training last week and has started this week. I really pray that things go well!

7. He has also almost finished everything so that he can be approved for candidacy in the Methodist church in February. Glad to see him moving forward with that, too.

8. You noticed last week that I tried to not have all my thoughts be about Scott. I'm not doing so good at that this week!

9. I'm still getting my Bible study done each morning, thanks in part to a great alarm clock!

10. I need to remember to count my blessings- they are many!

Ten Thought Tuesday- the post-birthday edition

1. I didn't get to open a present for my birthday. Lots of cards, but no present... no tangible present, anyway. Of course, the best things in life aren't really things, are they?

2. I did have a fabulous birthday - was spoiled like a queen, even without presents!

3. Sleeping in a toboggan makes for a bad hair day the next day!

4. Having friends who don't care if you're having a bad hair day is a good thing!

5. I can't wait for the next camping trip!

6. Why is it that the dog only sheds on my good clothes?

7. The cat got spayed today. Think he'll run away now?

8. Savannah got her braces off yesterday. I need to remember to post a picture.

9. I'm trying to not make all these thoughts about Scott...

10. I made it to 10!

Birthday weekend 2008

Scott, Savannah, and I went for a ride down the Creeper trail in Virginia.

I'm back- and thanks for the birthday wishes

I'm too tired to write much- or pull the pictures off the camera. I didn't take too many just because I was enjoying myself.

We got to Virginia about 8:30pm on Friday night and set up camp in the dark. Only Scott's friend Kelly went with us, because it was going to be in the low 30's and his wife didn't want to take their kids. So the 4 of us had a blast. Savannah went to bed pretty early and the grownups sat around the fire. I have no idea what time we went to bed- but it was hours past midnight.

It was cold! Very cold! But I had my little personal warmer, and she kept me from freezing all night. We got up and got packed up, had breakfast, and went to ride the Creeper trail. I'll tell you more about that later- 17 miles of biking through the woods, stopping to play in the creek several times along the way.

We stopped at a little town called Shatley Springs, NC on the way home. They make the best family-style dinners there of anywhere you've ever eaten. So we ate too much and were so happy. Made it home by 11pm last night.

Up as normal for church this morning. My 18 year old was baptized, and we had a combination birthday party/baptism celebration afterward. Fed about 30 people. So I'm tired- had a nap just now, and I think I'll go take another one! LOL! I'll give you more details later, let's just say it was a wonderful birthday!

Ten Thought Tuesday

1. I can already tell that today is going to be procrastination day...

2. I'm not ready for work yet, but I'm sitting here making this list.

3. Scott's phone is broken- his battery won't hold a charge, and even on the charger won't let him make longer than a 3 minute call.

4. I still talked to him for 3 min. this morning- the alarm clock is still working fine!

5. I offered him Savannah's phone- she only uses it when she is going somewhere other than school.

6. He didn't want to take it from her.

7. Do you think that's because it is a pink razr?

8. I can't wait until Friday!

9. I know some other people who can't wait until Friday!

10. Wonder what we'll post in our blogs come Monday?

Stolen from Doug and Kat and who knows who else!

1. Do you have the guts to answer these questions and re-post as The Controversial Survey?  Looks like it!

2. Would you do meth if it was legalized?
Absolutely NOT.

3. Abortion: for or against it?
Against it personally, but I don't believe in legislating morality- so I guess that makes me pro-choice- I'd just choose no.

4. Do you think the world would fail with a female president?
That might just be the thing to turn our country around!

5. Do you believe in the death penalty?  Yes. I think there are times when it is warranted- Timothy McVey? What else could you do to him?

6. Do you wish marijuana would be legalized already? No, that doesn't really affect me one way or the other, except for my kids.

7. Are you for or against premarital sex?  Against. We've allowed our families to become so broken that nothing can fix them- but the government will try to support our children, and fail.

8. Do you believe in God?  Absolutely.

9. Do you think same sex marriage should be legalized?
No, I can see letting them enter some sort of contract, but even at that, look  how easy marriage is to end. The contracts could be broken, too. Don't know how it would help.

10. Do you think it's wrong that so many Hispanics are illegally moving to the USA?  Yes. But not only Hispanics. Any illegals are wrong. For many reasons. I mean, we have to follow their laws, why don't they have to follow ours? (<<I'm just keeping Kat's answer on this one!)

11. A twelve year old girl has a baby, should she keep it?
She can't keep it. She can't even keep herself at this point. Now do her parents want to keep it? They may not have done so well the first time around if a 12 year old is pregnant. There are so many good people out there trying to have children that he could have a good life somewhere else.

12. Should the alcohol age be lowered to eighteen?  No- studies show that it is much easier to become an alchoholic by drinking at an early age. Once you're fully developed (I'm talking your liver here) it is more difficult.

13. Should the war in Iraq be called off?  Yes, but I don' t know how that would work. We're kinda stuck there for the moment.

14. Assisted suicide is illegal: do you agree? Yes, for some of the same reasons- legalizing it could lead to abuse. Waiting for mom to die and get all her money? Let's kill her now!

15. Do you believe in spanking your children?  I do. There is a difference between beating and a whomp on the butt. (<<Another good answer, Kat!)

16. Would you burn an American flag for a million dollars? Sure- that is actually the preferred method of disposing of an old flag. Bring me an old flag and a million bucks!

17. Who do you think would make a better president? Probably someone who wouldn't have the job!

19. Are you afraid others will judge you from reading some of your answers? No, I am who I am- and my friends know that. We have agreed to disagree a long time ago!

Who's Your Daddy?

You know I haven't been around much- except to post my Bible study and make a few comments on some other blogs. I really need to do better about blogging, but I can't seem to get any momentum going.

I do have to share a sweet story from today. Scott was at my house doing some work (he doesn't have high speed internet at his house, so he was glomming on my wireless) when Savannah's cell phone rang. Actually, he said the house phone rang, then her phone. He looked at it- it was an 800 number. Since this is the phone her father used to have, she occasionally gets phone calls that were meant for him.

Well, Scott answers it and sure enough, they asked for James. In his sternest voice (at least this is how he told it to me) he tells the person that this is Savannah's phone, and she is his daughter, and they're trying to reach her step-father, and they don't need to be using this phone to do so! They assured him that her number would be removed from their database.

My reaction was- well, pretty close to the truth. He's done more for her in the last 9 months than her father has done in 9 years. She thought it was great because she is tired of getting calls meant for her father. I did thank Scott for all he means to us- he is filling a void that we all felt. He said that he gets a lot out of things, too.

So all is good here!

Ten Thought Tuesday

1. I love my new alarm clock! It works!

2. I love my new eating plan. Salads are more fun if someone else eats them with you!

3. I lost 3 pounds this week.

4. Probably because I've done 26 minutes of step aerobics a day on my Wii Fit.

5. My calf muscles hurt.

6. The Panthers won their first game of the year. (Watch for flying pigs!)

7. I'm addicted to Mexican train dominos! We could play for hours each night. (Well, at least it is cheap entertainment.)

8. I'm going to see Mamma Mia! on Thursday night. I haven't seen an adult movie in the theatre since Titanic!

9. I am getting very used to Scott being at the house every day. He is going camping this weekend with his best guy friends. Wonder if he'll miss me as much as I'll miss him?

10. I am excited to have things to look forward to. We're going to ride the Virginia Creeper trail for my birthday present (birthday is Oct.5, but we're going on the 4th because we have duties at church on Sunday.) We're also going to the state fair at the end of October, and we have plans to see the Charlotte Symphony's pops Christmas concert!

Here's the cat - he still needs a name!

Ok, since I have a daughter who would keep a zoo if I'd let her, it looks like the cat can stay as long as he wants to. We went to Wal-Mart and got him a food bowl and a flea collar. We also gave him a bath- which he didn't like while he was in the sink,  but as soon as we wrapped him in a towel he was content to be rubbed dry. So it looks like we have a new member of the family. I know once we name him he's really ours, so this is my last bit of resistance- choosing a name. I do like the suggestion of Rascal Katz (thanks Tricia!) so unless the girl comes up with something better, he'll probably end up as Rascal.

Here he is, in his favorite place on the top of my car:

I've been absent- is your heart fonder?

I can take it if you say no- in fact, there's so much going on around here that I might not even notice! Well, not really, but this has been one crazy week! I'm so far behind on my Bible study that I might just skip a week and start again tomorrow. No one is grading this, so I think I'm allowed!

We had some minor flooding here because of the remnants of Fay, and it took out the internet connection at home. So I've been without the internet from Tuesday until last night. I didn't realize how addicted I was to this thing! I know I don't blog a lot, but I do read most every blog that my friends post and do try to comment on them. So I've missed you!

The storm also washed in one other thing- seems like I'm getting that kitten from you after all, Kat. I have a solid black, I'm guessing 12-14 week old kitten that has decided he is living here. Since both dogs haven't managed to chase him off, I think he might actually be home, whether I like it or not. I didn't plan to have another animal (read: another vet bill and another mouth to feed) but I know that cats choose you, not the other way around. So I'm holding off on naming him, but Savannah is secretly feeding him and petting him. As he is really friendly, I figure someone put him out. We'll see what happens...

Also, I had to go back to court with the sh**box (I'm calling him that now, Kat, since he is officially the ex!) because he isn't paying his child support and he isn't paying for his truck which is in my name, too. So the judge told him he has 30 days to get current on them both, or else. Or else what, I don't know. It doesn't seem that they do much to get him up off of his butt and doing the right thing.

On the plus side, Scott is wonderful! He is the best friend I've ever had, and he's been hanging around a lot. Took me to lunch three days in a row this week- and I've cooked supper for him twice! Still platonic, but leaning towards something really special. That's fine- I can wait on God and see what He has planned for both of us!

Where I've been

Campmeeting!

This is an annual event the first two weeks of August in my hometown. We actually have the oldest campmeeting in the US- over 250 years. This was started by Methodist circuit rider preachers who came through once a year, right after the harvest, and held services for two weeks under an open air arbor.

The tradition is somewhat different now. Permanent structures were built about 100 years ago- called tents- that are about 15x30. Open air- as you can see. Everyone has a swing on the front and the entire camp is built in a circle- so you can walk around and greet and talk to people. Everyone is welcomed- if we don't know you, we'll get to know you! Also, the food is awesome! Ham biscuits and homemade ice cream are the staples.

Here you can see Savannah in our tent:

;

Here's looking down the hill from our tent:

So that's where I've been until late at night every day! Had to go back to work this morning and recover from all the fun!

My Vacation

Start:     Aug 4, '08
End:     Aug 8, '08
Yes, I have all of next week off!!!! No, I'm not going anywhere special. There's the ongoing patio project to complete, some iron lawn furniture to paint, a deep freezer to defrost, and the pantry to clean out. I also hope to get the school shopping done and spend every night out late at campmeeting.

I think I'm going to enjoy this vacation better than actually going somewhere. I won't feel like I need a vacation when I get back!

Stolen from the Wonder Twins who got it from some Mouse....

If you came to my house: You'd see the typical teenage mess. And a mess in the back yard where the patio and pool will (hopefully) be one day.

You would see: That I'm just as friendly in person as I am on here.

I’d probably feed you: whatever the kids left in the fridge. Which basically leaves out pizza and junk food. We can have grilled chicken and a nice salad!

And offer you this to drink: sweet tea, water, or lemonade. If I know you're coming, I'd get your favorite soft drink, but you're out of luck if you just drop in!

I’d undoubtedly ask if you’d read: anything on my bookshelves. If not, I'd let you borrow it.

I’d want to play this music for you: I think I'd show you what an adventure my IPod is on shuffle! There's bound to be something you like!

I’d want to tell you about: Scott- he is usually first in my head right now. The kids and what they're doing, not to pet the dog because he bites, and how my day was going.

I’d probably suggest a game of: hmm, we'd talk so much we wouldn't need to play a game! And I don't know where any of the pieces are, anyway. We could play the Wii- that is really fun!

I would definitely show off:  My kids, my pictures, the house (if it is in decent shape- and had the patio fixed!)

I might get on the computer and show you: tons of pictures- that is where they mostly are!

If it was a long enough visit: We would go to the wave pool and maybe drive up to the mountains. They aren't that far away.

Ten Thought Tuesday

1. My brain feels like mush. I think it is the heat. Don't know if I can think of ten things or not!

2. Multiply was down all afternoon, and I felt like I was having withdrawals. Sad, isn't it?

3. Why is it that I can work in the house for two days and no one says anything, but let the kids do 5 minutes of work and they need 15 minutes of praise?

4. What do you do when your tomato plants make a million tomatoes all at once? And all your neighbors have the same problem, so there is no one to share with?

5. Why is it all the food in the pantry, no one eats? There is no room to put food that we will eat!

6. Is it scary to anyone else that a loaf of bread won't spoil in a week? What kind of preservatives are in that, anyway?

7. Do you notice how all my thoughts seem to be about food?

8. And I'm not hungry.

9. I am tired, but my child isn't home yet so I'd better stay awake.

10. I unlocked the 10 minute hula hoop on my Wii today. Let me tell you, 10 minutes of hula hoop can kick my butt!

Hey! I made it to 10- and pretty easily!

Do you love anyone? Yes lots of people.

Do any of your friends have children? Most of them do!

Do you hate anyone that you know right now? I can't bring myself to have enough feelings for the ex to muster up a good hate. So I guess the answer is no.

Do you use the word hello daily? Probably a million times!

Do you like cats? And dogs, and horses, and a lots of others of God's creatures.

Have you ever been to six flags? No, there isn't one close by here. We have Carowinds instead, which is basically the same thing. And I haven't been in a couple of years.

How did you get your worst scar? I tripped over the threshold of a door and hit my head on the counter- I was 10- got 8 stitches on my forehead. I think that is worse than my caesarian scar, because that one you can't see.

Picture Perfect Song Titles

Welcome to Picture Perfect!

~ This is week 10 of our Competition ~

The rules:

You have three days in which to post your picture with this weeks theme in mind

so there is NO RUSH

The Top Ten Pictures will be selected by our panel of admins and posted up in a poll on Saturday morning (PST). The poll will run for 24 hours, and is open to CONTACTS ONLY!

Remember: only ONE  picture please and it should be YOURS and not lifted off the internet. If it has been taken by a friend or member of family please mention that fact, this will eliminate you from the competition portion of Picture Perfect only and is not considered plagiarism in any form.

No slide shows please, and *no automatic music* on the page

Then come back and post a comment on this page
so that everyone can link to your blog and see your pic.

By all means mention your camera and lens used however humble, and if the picture has been altered or enhanced in anyway!

Out of the box thinking is encouraged!!

Please open your page for viewing for all for that day...and then visit as many others as you can! Try and post a decent size pic on your blog page, so much is lost if the pic is too small or too big.

Good Luck, and have fun out there!!
