Savannah's Room Makeover

This is the bedding that started it all. When the girl decided to move across the hall to Chris' old room, where the sun doesn't come beaming in early in the morning, she began looking at bedding. We found this in a catalog and it was "the one." Luckily, we found it so long ago that when I went to order it, it was on clearance! We were also lucky that they weren't sold out!

Anyway, looking at these three hot colors together, it took a little figuring to decide on the best wall color. I suggested yellow, and Savannah chose the actual shade. It was the perfect color!

Once I had two coats of primer and two coats of paint on the walls, we were ready to assemble the furniture from IKEA. She got the bed you see above (with 4 drawers underneath) and this awesome desk:

What I love are the accessories! While IKEA has great furniture, they have awesome, inexpensive accessories! The wall lamp was $6.99. The orange boxes were $7.49. The little rails above her desk, with the cups hanging from them, were ingenious! They were also $10 total, rails and cups! This is my kind of store!

We also got a mirror for $9.99 (Chris is admiring himself in it) and I paid my handyman to assemble and hang things. It was well worth $60 to me to not have to deal with all the assembly! I've told her ten times today- as she has happily admired her room, not to be too surprised when she has nothing to open on Christmas! (It won't be nothing, but it won't be much, either!)

  2. It is, Jimmie! Most of her "stuff" is still in her room across the hall. This is a good opportunity for her to purge a lot of things. I told her not to bring anything in her room that she didn't want to keep. She likes it so clean and uncluttered that she just might get rid of a lot of things!

  5. Were the shelves there already? Or are they IKEA too? My sister Aimee is in NJ right now, at IKEA. So there was a lot of discussion today about their stuff. The colors remind me of Emma's colors. Her walls are orange sherbert (I think that's what Vikki said) You'd never think the pink and orange looked good together but they do!! I love her room.

  6. I would be too, Sandy- I've offered to change rooms with her, but she's having none of that!

    Thanks Iggy!

Thanks Janet- I'm partial, but I think she is gorgeous- inside and out!

The shelves are IKEA, too, Kat. They're part of the desk system. I have a new favorite store! The walls are almost a yellow sherbert color. A little tad darker than butter.

  7. My sister said you can't get accessories online---only large items. So they drove down. I don't know why that would be. But I'm not driving to NJ to go shopping!!

    It does look great though.

  9. Well that is just beautiful, Janeen! The top photo makes me think of summertime, carnivals, lemonade. :) I love Ikea for cheap accessories! And how much you can mix-n-match parts of things, too. The room looks just awesome.

  10. Thanks Kippy- I think it turned out great! We still have a little accessorizing to do, but she'll have fun with posters and things as we go along. It doesn't all have to be right now. I don't know if you can see it here, but the first thing she did was put her stuffed animals on top of the shelf unit. They're perfect up there!

  11. I didn't notice that but I see it now. :) That is such an awesome room! I would have loved something like this when I was younger. Ok, maybe with a few more heavy metal posters, but still ... ;)

I told her I'd trade rooms with her. She didn't take me up on it!

  17. Oh I LOVE it ALL! It's so bright and cheerful. You two did an awesome job of decorating. I would have loved to have had a room like that when I was a teen. I wish I had an IKEA near me.

  18. Now that's the kind of room to have as a teen! Awesome!!
And don't you just love IKEA? There is one here quite close by (and one on the road to my dad and one on the road to my brother) so you can find me there on a regular basis, LOL.

  20. Savannah's old room still has her old bed in it- it will become the "guest" room and my craft room. Chris says he wants the basement back- we'll see on that- but he can always have the "guest" room.

  21. You might think twice about that Steve- it could cost you money!!

Yes, this is the room I'd have loved to have had as a teen!

  22. The store here is about a 45 min drive- which probably will keep me from going too often and spending too much. But it is close enough to go when I need to!

  26. LOL- Chris needs a room! Actually, he isn't supposed to be living here... he moved out 2 years ago and came home over the summer, post Iraq. He needs a job! He is moving to the basement.
