Productive Saturday

I got up early this morning because the weatherman said we would flirt with 100 degree temperatures this afternoon and I had a lot to get done. I mowed the back corner of the yard where I had to stop the other day when it stormed. I watered my plants in the bed here behind the garage and went to mom's house and watered for her. You can see where Scott has his work cut out for him making me a patio. When he is done, there will be a 20 x 20 paver patio and a fire pit. He claims he will get up the above ground pool that has been sitting in the side yard for at least two years, too! I want one of those canvas and iron canopies to go back here, too- as you can see there is no shade and this view is looking south.

I could only work until about 11:00am- it was 92 when I came inside. So I spent the rest of the day turning Chris' old bedroom upstairs into a craft room. Unpacked a lot of the boxes of stuff that was in the laundry room- mostly scrapbooking materials. I still have some things to move in but it is starting to look like an organized place. Now I just need some shelves. *sigh* That is a project for another day- and another paycheck.

  1. I love the heat. My indoor job has temperatures in the upper 80s when the air conditioner is off. I usually get cold when it gets below 90. It is in the 90s here and my air conditioner is off. I keep my house about the same temperature as my work now when I am home alone - which is most of the time. I run a fan to move the air. I have some extra fans on my computers, but they rarely get enough use to heat up the CPU too much.

  2. The heat just saps my energy. I don't mind being warm- sweating is actually nice sometimes (makes me feel like I've been working) but the dew point is in the mid 70's too and so it feels like a sauna. Working inside I could work so much longer.

  3. My yard could use your expertise. Your craft room is nice. How are things with the newly weds?

  4. I mowed the yard myself, or at least part of it. I got the worst of it and then handed the mower off to Ian and he got the side of the house and the front. The other side I'll put off until later tonight after the sun starts to set.

It's around 90 something right now. I'm thinking of hopping in the car and driving into town and hanging out at the park with my camera. My jeans are still a little damp from mowing. Yes, I mow wearing jeans.

  5. They're still struggling to me mature and responsible. I suppose we were all like that at 18/19 (of course I wasn't married that young!)

  6. I love to mow. That is actually one perk of the kids being gone- they like to mow (and I let them!) so I don't get to much.

  7. My kids pretty much drag their feet if they have to mow the whole yard...as it's about 3/4 acre and very uneven in parts. I let them do the easy stuff and do the hard part myself. That and when it's THIS hot, well, taking turns is usually best. I even managed to get a sunburn. *sigh*

  8. I need a tan- any sun would help. Scott told me my legs were blinding him last week. (Nice friend, huh?)

  9. I'd hate to have him look at me. I'm fishbelly white.

So, did you spray him down with a garden hose or something? You should have and then had a water fight. (I just think they're fun and try to start them whenever I can in the summer.)

  10. I know- I lifeguarded my way through college. Ever since, I pretty much avoid all the sun I can.

And I handed him my sunglasses and said "deal with it." We were in the car, so I didn't have a hose handy! (I'll remember that one for later, though!)

  11. Just give him dark sunglasses all the time. lol! Yeah, I hate the sun but I love to be outdoors. Go figure. I'm the get in the sun, burn, blister type of person.

Yeah, remember the water fight. You can even start them with your kids. lol! Make it a family affair.

  12. Let me know when the pool is ready! lol

  13. Just got home from my niece's son's graduation open house. She had a scrapbook with all his awards and certificates he received during his senior year. ( he was the validictorian of his graduation class) Right next to it was a scrapbook of all his school years and she did a great job on scrap booking.

Looks and sounds like this Scott will have his hands full. A patio and a fire pit is a long project. The shelving project is a weekend type of project. No problem. Till then it looks like you have plenty of floorspace till the shelves are up.

  14. Well come on- you'll be done before me because I'm at least 8 years behind!

  15. He does handyman work on the side, so I'm hiring him and his best friend (who is an unemployed civil engineer right now) to do it. I'd rather pay them than someone I don't know. The pool is on him- he wants it up so he can do it!

  16. It was hot and humid today and will be again tomorrow. I was lucky enough to catch a few friends as they were driving near my house tonight and they came over to help me get my ac unit in the window. It will probably be 70 next week... LOL. But that's okay. I hate sweating!

  17. You're supposed to wear long pants when mowing for safety reasons. :)

  18. I'm the motor... I think it's safe to wear shorts...except for the skeeters...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh, right... I forgot about that.

The skeeters are bad this year!!!!!

  20. The skeeters are awful this time of year.

  21. I read somewhere that the bat population is diseased and decreasing... so there will be more skeeters around.

Did I already tell you that? I'm having Vuja De! :)

  22. Good. That means I'm not repeating myself. LOL.

  23. Taking B vitamins keeps the skeeters away! I know it works because I've done it- took Relacore to help lose weight and ended up not getting bit!

    ReplyDelete
  24. What's Relecore?? I'll have to google it. Brewers yeast in food (or pill form) is supposed to keep mosquitos off dogs too (and garlic tabs) but nothing has worked for me.We live right by the river and the tall grass is just deadly. It's so bad even with a smoking fire, they still bomb us.

I have a plan for bat-houses...I wonder if I build it, will they come? Until then, I have a screen tent we're going to put up soon. Maybe today. We were going to put it out back near the fire pit, but since nobody has been around to use it like in summers past, I had the brilliant idea of setting it up on the deck!! It should fit!! The dogs can use it then too. I would feel a lot better letting Sophia sleep outside if she had a screened area. She likes to just pass out on the deck at night. lol.

I would love to have a pool...*sigh* I'm trying to talk my mother into it. She has all that property, full sun and wasted!!! She'll never do it. But it's fun badgering her hahaha.

  25. What's Relacore and how much did you lose?

(I'm always wanting to lose weight.)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Relacore is a supplement that is supposed to target belly fat (although I can't swear that is what it does). It does have your b vitamins (B1, B2, B6 and B 12) plus vitamin C, magnesium and a little calcium. Can't hurt you, anyway!

I saw that bat house thing on that site I sent you the link to yesterday, Kat- wondered why you'd want the bats to come, then read where they eat mosquitos. Now I know!

  27. I looked it up online. It's expensive!

  28. Sam's has two bottles for $35- and one bottle lasts me about 3 months (I take 2 a day- not the recommended 6!)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ah hah! I'll have to make a trip to Sam's then. Was it in the vitamin aisle?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes- over in the weight loss stuff.
