Thoughts for Some Day of the Week

Not my pool... but wouldn't that be nice?

I feel like I've been MIA here for forever! I get caught up in life and don't make it here. If I didn't get Facebook on my phone I probably wouldn't make it there, either.

I'm leaving Tuesday for Cherokee. This will be my 6th mission trip there (not counting ones to Belize and Montana) and the 3rd or 4th that I've led. I lost count. I think it is 4. Anyway, this time I'm taking 18 people and we're going to hang sheetrock and do some painting. We will also give over 100 shoes to the local children of the tribe through Samaritan's Feet. I'm excited to go, but have so much to do before I get there.

I got an iPhone in mid-May and I love it! It is making me lazy though- I keep thinking that if I double-space when I type that it will leave a period at the end. But it doesn't navigate around Multiply well, so I end up not coming here. I do miss you guys - especially the ones I don't see on Facebook.

So here are my thoughts for today. Count them as really late (or really early) thoughts for Tuesday, since I haven't had any thoughts in the past few Tuesdays, and probably won't have time for any this coming week!

1. I wish I had enough money to really travel. I have a list of places I would like to see. And since Dai says Nepal is on my shortcut route, I guess I would start there.

2. I'm not a shopper. I'm more of a "go get what you need and get out" type of person. But the pictures Dai posted from the market in Thamel made me want to go touch it all!

3. It is hot. Really hot. Don't remind me that I live in the south and it is summer, because it is record-breaking hot. And for the south, that means it is really hot!

4. I did clean the pool today. Then I swam and floated for a little bit. That felt good.

5. I have so much packing to do, not only for Savannah and me but for the team, that I'm procrastinating. I know, you'd tell me to come here and procrastinate more often.

6. I am washing clothes. Of course, that means I have to go fold them in a minute. I hate trying to fold cold clothes, so I usually don't put that off.

7. I am tired of eating. I think it is just too hot, but nothing tastes good. When I said that to my mom, she agreed. So she made this great salad tonight. It was tomatoes, onions, fresh basil, olive oil, and white wine vinegar with croutons in it. Yummy!

8. She has decided that she hates eating alone, so she wants to cook dinner every night. And I have decided that sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

9. Savannah's at the beach. One of her friends wanted her to go with them for the weekend. She gets back tomorrow, packs for Cherokee, then I drop her in Asheville for another mission trip on our way home. The girl won't be home for what seems like forever!

10. It is time to clean out my tent at the campground. I know I have posted pictures before. We call them tents, but they're wooden structures, more like a shack. Campmeeting time will be here soon, and that always feels like the end of summer to me. It will be over before it got started good!

For Susan- I have a good vacation spot for next year- Natchez, Mississippi! My cousin just moved there to be a pastor at a new church. He says that there is all kinds of Civil War sites and old buildings to see. I immediately thought of you!!

And Kat, I just can't write a blog without you in it! So here you are!

Ooh, and I just had to say "floppy hangies" for Bill- just because it made me giggle! Thanks for the giggles!

I hear the dryer buzzing, so it is time to go fold. Y'all be good on this Saturday night (or Sunday morning, depending on where you live!)

  3. Mo, you're probably right. Mom is a nurturer and needs someone to care for. She is still sticking pretty close to home, so she won't think about a mission trip right now. I'm trying to get her to think about going to England to see my step-sister next year, though!

  5. I hope you get that.. I've watched the price of flights to Houston more than double over the last two years.. grrrrr!

  6. I thought I would make the first comment but there are much faster friends than me hehe. International fares are all priced in US Dollars and they've really gone up there. BUT our poor Nepalese rupee has lost 25% against the dollar in the last year so guess what this has done to international air tickets here. But it also makes Nepal a stupidly cheap travel destination for Americans. I was craving salads through the hot, humid summer months in Kathmandu but now we are cooling off in the monsoon and I can eat normally again. Did you say Cherokee? It just so happens that I know a great shortcut from Denver to Cherokee. I can tell you if you want.

  7. Only you could turn a 3 hour drive into a 36 hour flight!

  8. All the flights have gone up so much! We were going to go to Cabo San Lucas this year because a friend was sharing their time share, but flights more than doubled from last year. I just couldn't handle the added expense!

  10. ROFL! You do sound like you're going to be busy for a good while, yet! Wow! Best of luck with laundry and packing. I'm still trying to clean up from our unpacking! :/

Natchez, Miss! I'll have to tell Art about that one! Thanks!

  11. Only a woman can say something like 'Cherokee' and presume everyone else knows who or what or where that is.LOL. . . maybe it's just me out of the loop but there ain't no denying the original point.

If you're available anytime soon please pm me.

  13. I'll have to google Cherokee, lol. I have no idea what or where that is. But a missions trip ... oohh, I wish I could go on one again. Maybe in a few years time :)

Your mom cooking dinner sounds like heaven to me.

Have a great time and enjoy everything you do this summer! :)

  15. Read about the Cherokee Indians and the Trail of Tears. This is the band that remained in the mountains of NC. The reservation is about a 3 hour drive from here. Very poor although since Harrah's casino moved in the tribe (government) has made some improvements to the infrastructure.

  16. It's so good to see and hear what you've been up to!! Real life has a way of imposing priority in your life!! We've been roasting here in Kentucky too. Hope it gets cooler soon! Enjoy your travels and take lots of pictures for those of us too broke to venture anywhere!! Be safe!!!

  17. Hope you have a great time on yoru mission trip and are able to over abundantly bless others.

The salad sounds good, this time of the year I sure love watermelon. It has been 105 here in Missouri, we finally got a break down in the low 90s this week, but no rain.

  18. Busy is good. Ive been down for 2 months with shingles and then as I was healing, had to fly home for my fathers funeral....so I stayed a few weeks trying to help mom. Now Im home trying to catch up on my life after 3months of doing nothing with it. So Im a bit busy too but not in a fun way. I like to travel so your kind of busy sounds like lots of fun!

  19. I was thinking the same things...wishing I had money to travel. Because I would. You are quite active---more so than I am. Seems like all I ever do is wish. Enjoy your trip. I've been to Cherokee several times and it's a nice area. I know you'll have fun helping people there. Camping isn't my thing (unless I had a super duper camper like Rat has) but that's the best place I can think to do it!! HUGS

  21. Attended a very enlightening presentation yesterday after church services. It was done by one of our church members who does missionary work in Mexico. Gotta say that really touched me. Plus all the ways God works through other people with donations....sometimes massive donations of money food and other materials.

  22. Not that God doesn't work right here at home (because He does!) but I have never seen more powerful movements of the Spirit than on mission trips. The way things come together, the way the right people are in the right places, the way you have just the right resources, just leaves me in awe. And usually, the people I am going to minister to actually end up ministering to me!

  23. Maybe soon I'll be in the mountains and you can come visit me!
