Picture Perfect- Before My Time

I haven't been around regularly lately- I thought summer would be less crazy and gee, was I wrong! But when I saw the Picture Perfect theme this week I knew I had the perfect picture:

There is a small Amish community in Virginia who still do things the old fashioned way- or I call it "the hard way!" Here is a guy mowing hay the way my grandfather did. The hard way! I'm sure glad that was before my time!

  2. Great shot. My Dad used to farm behind horses. By the time I was born and wanted a horse, Dad said "no way!" I didn't understand the answer then, but I sure to now!

    Thanks for visiting.

  6. Years ago on an Iowa trip we visited an Amish farm and saw them. also went to Iowa Horse Sale where Amish bring their best trained horses for sale. Mostly they are used for logging and heavy work as well as parades, They are a great people who appreciate God's green earth. You can look at this picture and almost smell the wonderful smells that go with this type of farming.

  11. Jan, I know little about the Amishes but from what I've gleaned so far, they like doing things the oldfashioned way and have very high moral standards. Before anyone tells me, I know there are exceptions who step out of line. I think I would like to visit. Land is also ploughed here in Nepal the oldfashioned way with two buffalo and a plough

  14. Dai, peach cobbler is a cup of self-rising flour, a cup of sugar, and a cup of milk. Mix that together in a baking dish and put fresh fruit on top. You can use peaches, or blackberries, blueberries, whatever you have on hand. Bake it at 400 degrees until the dough is cooked (I don't remember how long- 30 min maybe?) Some people top it with pats of butter. And you can serve it warm with some ice cream!

  15. The Amish fascinate me. I actually think that they are on the right track and we can learn from them.
    Wonderful capture.

  16. I always to visit the Amish village one day. Although what they chose to do is "the hard way", perhaps it makes them appreciate what they have more. We should do that too.
