CHAMPIONS!!

Bad cellphone picture- who leaves their camera home on the day of the tournament championship? Me, of course. But there are the girls! They played their hearts out to first win the play-in game (from 5th seed out of 5 in the conference), then to knock off #1 who hadn't lost a game all season (and is a year-round tournament team.) Then they handily beat the #2 seed today 25-11 and 25-17. Congrats Savannah (#1) and the Lady Eagles!!

Tuesday? And I'm Supposed to Think?

1. Considering I left home at 7:30am and walked back in the door at 8:50pm, I'm doing pretty good. Tired, hungry, can't talk but I'm home. Don't know if I have ten thoughts, or can even take ten steps, but I'm trying.

2. Thank goodness work was calm today- for work, anyway. I spent 30 minutes troubleshooting a DVD player for one of the women's groups. It would play the DVD, but only the sound came through. So I found another DVD player, hooked it up, and got the same result. Diagnosis- bad DVD. I hope- I didn't have time to take another DVD over and make sure it worked. Fun for tomorrow.

3. After I left work, I decided to go to Harris Teeter. They had Osteobiflex on sale 50% off. That made it $15 instead of $30. Then I had a $3 coupon. I bought one last week and decided to go back and get another one before they went off sale tomorrow.

4. I was also looking for rat poison because Chris saw something in the attic. According to him it was squirrel size. But I figured rat poison would work. Harris Teeter didn't carry it. That surprised me, but I went to Tractor Supply and found a block of it. It is now in the attic waiting for something to eat it.

5. I managed to find cards at Tractor Supply for my step-sister's 50th birthday on Saturday. She's a horse person and there were lots of cards about putting an old horse out to pasture... yes, we're having her an over the hill party. My step-sister from England (Seaton) is here for the big occasion. I found her a book on healthy aging and one called "Stiff, the Secret Life of Cadavers." Any other ideas are welcome! (I thought about denture cream, wrinkle cream, etc.)

6. After shopping, I went to Savannah's last volleyball game of the year. At least I thought it was going to be. They were 5th seed in the tourney, and had to play in yesterday against the #4 seed. They won that game to get to face the #1 seed today. Considering #1 hadn't lost a game all year (and are a Jr Olympic team year-round) I figured this would end their tourney. But... THEY WON! 20-25; 25-17; 15-7. So now we get to play for the championship on Thursday!

7. After that I had community chorus rehearsal. I'm not directing this time, but had told the director I'd help her lead sectionals. Which is more work than just sitting there singing, especially considering all the yelling I did at the game. I can barely talk. And I'm tired.

8. So I came home to a MESS... three boys cooking themselves dinner. I don't know how they managed to destroy the kitchen, but they did! I don't even have the energy to get upset about it.

9. I wish I had lots of money. I'd send some to Kat so that she could pay for Loki's vet bills and still have some left over to treat herself with. I'd also send some to Leece so she could hire a lawyer and get her girl back with her. If I had enough, I'd share it with everyone. And I'd send some to Susan just because I think she needs a new house- closer to me!

10. My pillow calls- tomorrow will be another crazy day with work, late volleyball practice, church and drama practice. I guess I can rest when I'm dead, right?

Have you ever?

Savannah had an away volleyball game yesterday (they won) but coming home was a challenge. They're resurfacing I-40 and working on some of the bridges, so it hasn't been a fun road to travel all year. Yesterday coming back we came upon the resurfacing crew, so I jumped off the interstate and took the back roads home.

In Maiden, we came upon a fireman diverting traffic through town, I assumed because of an accident, but couldn't see what happened. As we came around the back side of the detour, this is what I saw....

I don't know how a truck runs into itself, but I'm guessing someone didn't know what they were doing when they hooked them together! Just this morning I saw a landscaper towing a (thankfully empty) trailer lose the trailer off the back of his truck. You're supposed to use safety chains on those things but apparently he didn't know that. Thankfully, he was turning and the trailer went off into an empty parking lot.

Now I'm wondering if the universe is trying to tell me something about connectedness....

Lord of the Small

Praise to the Lord of the small, broken things,
Who sees the poor sparrow that cannot take wing,
Who loves the lame child, and the wretch in the street,
Who comforts their sorrows and washes their feet.

Praise to the Lord of the faint and afraid,
Who girds them with courage and lends them His aid;
He pours out His Spirit on vessels so weak
That the timid can serve and the silent can speak.

Praise to the Lord of the frail and the ill,
Who heals their afflictions, or carries them till
They leave this tired frame and to paradise fly,
To never be sick and never to die.

Praise Him, O praise Him all ye who yet live,
Who've been given so much and can so little give,
Our frail, lisping praise God will never despise:
He sees His dear children through mercy-filled eyes.

~Dan Forrest

This is a choir anthem for Sunday- the words really moved me, and I just had to share them!

Fall, EFT, and Scandalon

I had a great weekend in the mountains at the ARE Retreat. This is at a retreat center call Wildacres, which is located at the top of a mountain in Little Switzerland, NC. The weather was gorgeous (if you overlooked the 40 mph winds on Friday) and we were able to have a bonfire and shamanic ceremony on Saturday night.

The leaves are just beginning to turn colors. The reds seemed to go first this year. Temps were down into the 40's at night, which, considering it was 90 here until last week, seemed really COLD! But fall is here- the air has that crisp feeling to it and the oppressive heat and humidity have been put to bed until next year.

This retreat always has a speaker talking about some topic. Then the people attending offer small sessions on things that they are expert in. Considering we have empathists, Reike healers, and more, these can be very interesting. The best one I went to was on EFT. If you don't know what that is, click on that link and check it out.  I was totally skeptical about it working, but in three rounds I couldn't even feel the pain in my back. I was also totally turned off to chocolate (and let me tell you, that is a miracle!) I thought about Kat, because there was a lady there with us who has fibro and was hurting pretty badly. Her pain level went from a 9 to a 1 in four rounds!

I look for God in repetition- coincidences- redundancy- and have found that I was supposed to be drawn to EFT. There is a group of people here at home who want to get together as a wellness group. I thought they were talking more about herbal medicine and nutrition, but the girl told me yesterday that we will be doing EFT and Qi Gong at our first meeting in two weeks. If she had told me that last week, I wouldn't have even known what EFT was!

I also had enough time to finish reading Susan's book, Scandalon. I haven't had time to tell her how wonderful this book was, but I'll tell all of you. Well written, very revealing and insightful, and a first-hand look at life in China as an American. You get a clear sense of the differences in thought and culture. You also get a refreshing look at the redemptive powers of God. Well done, Susan!

I'm still doing laundry and unpacking. Savannah went on a youth retreat this weekend, so I have two people to unpack. Well, she unpacked, but didn't put her suitcase away. I'll put hers up when I get through with mine. For now, I'm still trying to catch up on blogs. I know there's no way to, so if I didn't get by you and there's something really important about it, please let me know!
