I gotta dish in my yard that would phone ET home. Old school stuff . The size of a school bus. What I hear is find one that u can afford who meets your needs. And make THEM understand what you want. Not the other way around.
We loooove DirecTV. And let me be the first to say if you tell them, when you order, that an existing customer like, oh, say, ME, referred you, then we both get $100 credit. :)
That said, do you have hi def tv? Because I think DirecTV offers the most Hi Def channels. We went from Charter + TiVo to DirecTV + DVR ... we are really happy with it. The ONLY problem we've had is heavy snowstorms. The snow piles up on the dish and messes with the reception. But we've only had to worry about that twice this year. You might remember my story about my trip out into the yard in the mid of the night to clear off the dish. ;)
Not sure which one is best. Guess I'll stick with Comcast Cable/Internet since I won't be able to have dish or direct at the apartments whenever I move.
Dish network is what we have. Its bundled with the rent we pay and it depends upon the package that you want. My rent, 3G internet connection and the satellite dish network is all included in one payment.
I don't have an HDTV, but I'd love love LOVE a dvr! I'm just tired of paying Charter $77 a month for 70 channels- and I know I'd come out with more channels for the same money (or a cheaper bill!)
I have AT&T U-verse, but not a DVR. They wanted and extra $30 a month for those. All I need is Internet and I am fine, but the family ... well we have tried it all. At one time i had everything the cable company offered. My grown kids were living with me and got all the sports packages ... football, baseball, hockey, NBA. The bill was several hundred dollars a month. My bill now is in the $180 a month range. One reason is is so much as I have the most bandwidth the offer for Internet and more than one ip address which costs more - sort of like having two phone lines with separate numbers. I use that for work and business..
We are still refusing to pay for commercials, so we've never had cable or satellite. Hope you are able to make the right decision based on what others have to say.
We had DirecTV for a year and in that time the base unit (with DVR) messed up 3 times and we had to pay for repairs. After the 3rd time we ripped it out and threw it away permanently! Got Dish and have not had any problems!!
I have dish for internet only and TV is on antenna yet. Hubby doesn't want to lose his favorite stations on there if we got satellite. Internet dish is pretty good unless it's raining a lot. Has been on all day in this blizzard.
I thought that too, 'til I saw it. But then, we watch a fair amount of tv. :) It makes a huge difference, or it did in our case, anyway. Some of those Nat Geo shows are almost quite literally breathtaking.
Neither. They are badly affected by weather no matter how perfectly aligned to the satellite they are, any good thunderstorm and poof... no service till the storm is over. Also my experience with both is they are over priced crap. Had them in SC and Miss, short of them PAYING me to have their service for the rest of my life, i'd never even consider using them again.
However, if you have no choice but to lose the cable, you may very well get stuck with them. I hope their service for you is better than the crap they gave to me.
Happy and contented Dish Network customer for something like 12 years. From what I understand, the main reason people choose DirecTV over Dish is because of better sports programming, but if you don't care about that (like I don't) Dish is cheaper and has better DVR and HDTV options.
Dragonwindspirit is just wrong; it's only the most severe thunderstorms that take out the service, and even then it's only for a few minutes (and in those bad storms cable often goes out for HOURS until it's repaired). It happens to me maybe once or twice a year and that's that--ends up being 99.99% reliable if you do the math. Dish Network has an "Eastern Arc" fleet of satellites at 61.5, 72.7, and 77 orbital degrees, which means that the satellites are high in the sky and you don't cut through as much atmosphere to get to them. So it takes a lot to attenuate the signal.
Let me know if you go Dish and I can get you a coupon.
Shane where I lived, even a 'small' thunderstorm was usually severe, so that may have been the issue there, but my experience with both has been dismal at best with service, and customer service. However, I know that not everybody experiences the same thing, so it is very possible you got/get excellent service where you are at. Myself, I didn't experience great service with either, and so they can't PAY me to go back to them. Just remember, your experience isn't mine, so saying i'm wrong... pretty damn stupid when you don't know what I experienced with either.
I'm not given to hyperbole and it takes a fair amount of headaches for me to come to despise a company. BOTH Dish and Direct TV managed to bring that out of me.
Well I'm not in a very violate weather area, so that may not be much of a factor. Shane is close to me so if he's not had weather problems I wouldn't see why I would.
I don't know either...I'll be watching to see.
ReplyDeleteIn Michigan I had Direct Tv....and no complaints....never had Dish to compare
ReplyDeleteThe costs seem very similar- I guess that's on purpose!
ReplyDeleteWe're stuck on Charter. Most of my neighbors have Dish TV things in their yards.

ReplyDeleteI hope to make this decision next year when our contract is up..... but right now my cable/internet/ and land line are bundled..... sigh.....

ReplyDeletedunno... never had satellite... landlord won't allow a dish to be put on the building... that's why i've been w/out tv since before Halloween, lol

ReplyDeleteHDTV is a lil outta my price range... ok, a LOT outta it, lol... never even seen one... can't be all that different can it?
ReplyDeleteI have seen one- and it is pretty amazing! But not in my future- unless a TV dies, 'cause I think that is all you can buy now!

ReplyDeleteThat's good to know, Karen. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have priced both and know we're coming out better with satellite- but there isn't much difference between the two satellite companies.

ReplyDeleteWe're a rural area and for some reason, cable was cheaper...so we went with cable.

The only reason I keep cable and don't switch is internet. If I could change that---I'd do it.
ReplyDeleteI've never had either, but I did attempt to get Dish Network and they really screwed me before I even got it, so I will never give them my biz!

I don't know, ask people who have them. I know weather plays a factor.
