I hurt all over!

42 is too old to try to get back in shape to play with kids! We had our second church softball game tonight and I was still sore from the first one on Tuesday. But we won them both! I actually got on base three times tonight! And scored! It is really fun to get out and play for fun. But my legs don't think so right now!

I was reading Leece's blog about getting back into shape, and someone commented that the easiest way is to do something you enjoy. So softball is going to be really good! (Too bad sleeping won't do it though- I really enjoy that!)

Here's a picture of Brandon from today's high school baseball game. He pitched today for the first time in four years! I was almost in tears- I thought I'd never see him pitch again. He broke his elbow pitching in 8th grade- threw a ball and snapped the end of the bone right off. Freak accident. They did surgery and put screws in it and made it as good as new, but he has always been afraid to really throw the ball again. Funny, but he still expects it to hurt and is surprised when it doesn't. He didn't play baseball for two years, then they talked him into it at school last year.

I can't believe he graduates in four weeks. I can still remember the first day he went to kindergarten. And now he's graduating and going off to college. Got a full ticket to go to a local private college. He wants to major in elementary education. He's really good with children, so this should be just the thing for him. He'll never have a lot of money, but he will love his job. Unless he can figure out how to be a professional fisherman!

Biltmore 2009

I went with Savannah's class to the Biltmore House in Asheville NC on Friday. This place is incredible- I only wish we had more time to see it all. We started at the farm with animals, woodworkers, the blacksmith, and stables. Then we went to the house. Ok, house isn't quite the right word- CASTLE is closer! The place is exquisite and has many priceless works of art, ming vases, carvings and statues, and tons of books.

We didn't even get to the gardens (which were planned by Frederick Law Olmstead) or the winery (where your ticket gets you a complimentary glass of Biltmore wine.)

If you get a chance to see it, do. The ticket is pricey but well worth it. Sorry, there are no pictures of inside the house, but they don't allow cameras inside.

Tuesday Ten- The "it's about time you posted something" Edition

1. Yes, I've been really slack here lately. I guess my muse has been on vacation. I hope she went somewhere fun, since I'm stuck here!

2. Happy Birthday Abby! Someday, we're going to get together and maybe we can celebrate all these things we miss!

3. Maybe that will be this summer, if we can get Art and his brother on the move!

4. I'm playing church softball! Yes, me who has been content to sit and watch for 15 years. I forgot how much fun playing can be!

5. My shin hurts, though- Savannah cracked me with a fast-pitch softball during practice today. Ouch.

6. My computer at work has been down for a week. I just got a new one on Monday- and it has all the bells and whistles! Only problem is, I'm having to re-load all the software!

7. I've been stuck behind my desk all day. I feel fat. I really need to remember to get up every 30 minutes or so and move!

8. I'm thinking about buying an above ground pool. I have the money, I just don't know if I want to spend it. There's something about having it that feels good. But, there's something about creating a fun playground for the family that might actually be better. I'm still thinking.

9. My boy has a free ride to two different colleges! Now he just has to choose one! Graduation is in 5 weeks. I can't believe he is all grown up.

10. I have seriously been thinking about making travel plans. I get happy when I anticipate something fun. I was thinking Grand Canyon in the fall- then Kat brings up Nepal! That might have to wait a few years. Maybe if we start saving now.....

Don't Argue with a Woman who Reads Books

One morning, a husband returns after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap. Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book. Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says, "Good morning, Ma'am. What are you doing?"

"Reading a book," she replies,  (thinking, "Isn't that obvious?")

"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.

"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading".

"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start fishing at any moment. I'll have to take you in and write you up."

"For reading a book?"  she replies.

"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her again.

"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing. I'm reading"

"Yes, but you have all the  equipment. For all I know you could start fishing at any  moment. I'll have to take you in and write you  up."

"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.

"But I haven't even touched  you," says the game warden.

"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."

"Have a nice day ma'am," said the game warden, and he left.

MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.
